About Us

John 4:23-24 “The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

As a body of believers united through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, we seek to dedicate ourselves to true worship of the Tiune Godhead. We dedicate our worship to rightly dividing the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15) and understanding how true doctrine applies to our lives. Unified by one faith (Ephesians 4:4), and by the Spirit of God (John 3:6), we grow together in our knowledge and appreciation of God for providing His gracious gift of salvation.

What To Expect

Visiting a new church can be both exciting and intimidating. We would like to help ease any nerves of the unknown by explaining what can be expected on your first visit. Church On the Esplanade has been ministering to the people of Chico for over 50 years and is located on the corner of E. First Ave and the Esplanade. Upon arriving at the church there are parking spaces available on E. First Ave and visitor parking designated at the front of our parking lot. A friendly greeter will welcome you to our church upon entering the Sanctuary and hand you a bulletin that outlines our worship service. This will include the words to our worship songs, sermon title/notes, and information about the church and upcoming events. When continuing into the sanctuary, there will be a welcome center to the right with information tables and a coffee center to the left. You will find that people will be visiting and welcoming others before the start of worship. Music will begin to play when the service is to start. We begin with singing worship songs, readings from the Bible and prayer. Our pastor will preach a sermon from the Bible and conclude with a song and/or reading, and prayer. After the sermon, there will be members available to talk and or pray with anyone who wishes to do so. Communication Cards are provided on the back of every pew in the church, where you can give our church your contact information and/or leave a prayer request so we can minister to you further. Communication Cards can be placed in the offering plate during the service or can be left on the pew and will be collected after the service.

Sunday morning attire at Church on the Esplanade is mostly casual, ranging from jeans to suits and dresses. We encourage you to be honest in how you show gratitude and honor to God, including how you dress. Some cultures express this by dressing up for church, and some do not. “People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

We hope you would join us in worshiping and serving our risen Lord, Jesus Christ.

Why We Are Here

Our church is here to worship, fellowship, minister, disciple, and evangelize. We strive to be a church centered on the Gospel and not on entertainment and worldly ambitions. What binds us together as a body is our faith in the saving work of Jesus Christ and desire to share His Gospel message.

What is the Gospel? Simply, that everyone has sinned against God, where sin deserves punishment, and Jesus Christ took the punishment on the cross for all of those that would repent and put their faith in Him. There are many deeper aspects of the message of the Gospel (many that can be found in the Teachings page of our site), but at the most fundamental level we are here because someone shared the message of faith and hope in Jesus Christ and we put our trust in that message. Now we seek to share the message with others and grow in our faith and knowledge continually each day.
